What does your organization do?
At Clearbox, we simplify access to affordable, high-quality legal support for immigrants filing family-based immigration applications without a lawyer. Clearbox gives applicants personalized legal guidance to help them get it right the first time, all powered by our network of experienced immigration lawyers and for a fixed price.
What was your inspiration for starting Clearbox?
I’m an immigrant, turned immigration lawyer, turned founder, so I understood the problem from these different angles. I went through the same immigration pipeline myself, and am personally familiar with the pain point. In my family immigration practice, I saw many clients who could very well have handled the application process on their own had they had enough English proficiency, education, and understanding of the process. But they hired a full-service lawyer for thousands of dollars because they didn’t have access to the correct information, so my intention was to try and fill that gap. Far too many immigration applications fail or hit roadblocks simply because unrepresented applicants don’t have the right legal or procedural information for their application type. The consumer is forced to choose between costly full-service legal representation or an uninformed pro se journey unless they stumble on the right content-based resources to help them succeed. As an immigrant, I used several of these resources myself early in my immigration journey. As an immigration lawyer, I saw the damage that lack of having the right information can cause to a pro se application.
