What does your organization do?
We focus on our mission and not profitability. In other words, we provide services at an affordable cost to offer innovative solutions to legal aid organizations, law firms, legal tech companies, and users of the legal system. Our services range from website development, graphic design, and project management, to more elaborate services like document automation and custom software development.
Why did you pick this problem to solve?
The World Justice Project estimated that 5 billion people have unmet justice needs globally, including people who cannot obtain justice for everyday problems. In the case of the U.S., the latest Legal Services Corporation Justice Gap Report reported that 92 % of civil legal issues reported by low-income Americans have received inadequate or no legal help.
Out of all the clients and projects you’ve served so far, what do you consider your most impactful success?
The Legal Kiosk Project. Legal kiosks are computers across a specific state (we have several new states underway) that provide access to legal aid services to individuals without access to the internet or technology. These Legal Kiosks are stationed in various community locations offering the public the ability to apply for civil legal aid services, access legal resources, and, in some cases, attend online meetings and remote court hearings in privacy.
I would like to give a shoutout to Triana Kalmanoff, who has been an absolute rockstar with this project. The value, besides the technology, is that sometimes access to the legal system and a chance at justice are only available to those with the means and resources to use technology and the internet. When that is true, innovation also means going back to basics, such as enabling public computers for people. To make an impactful change, you don’t only need to have artificial intelligence, blockchain, or the internet of things. There are still many things that can get done with simple tools.

Hello Divorce. We have partnered with this organization to leverage their efforts. We truly believe in their mission, and they are one of the best examples of making complex legal issues simple by leveraging technology, but focusing on the person. The future is bright for this awesome company. Plus, all of their staff is wonderful and bright.
How does A2J Tech hope to grow/innovate in the future?
We have a lot of exciting projects right now, but we are currently in the stage of developing more legal tech and justice tech products for consumers (B2C model). On top of that, we are in the process of launching software-as-a-service (SaaS) for legal aid organizations and law firms. We continue to grow organically and sustainably, which is something that we are very proud of. Although we expect to grow rapidly, the other piece to the puzzle is finding talented professionals that are interested in this space.
Of JTA’s Mission, Purpose, and Values, which drew you most to JTA, and how does your work address them?
“We drive innovation of accessible technology to help people navigate legal matters and meaningfully better their lives.” In our work, we constantly help legal tech projects and legal aid organizations to create creative and innovative solutions and assist consumers to navigate complex legal challenges. We truly believe that innovation is a process that requires collaboration, and we are glad to be one of the many players and pieces to push it forward.
